Dr CK Yao

Dr CK Yao is a specialist Dietitian. She consults at the Melbourne Centre for Gastroenterology and Diet Solutions.

CK loves to combine science with practical dietary approaches to help clients achieve good nutrition and their health goals. Her passion lies in empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge as they embark on their dietary journey.

After graduating from Deakin University in 2009, CK worked in the FODMAP research team at Department of Gastroenterology, Monash University, exploring the role of probiotics and individual FODMAPs on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms. A PhD soon followed at Monash University and Alfred Health, looking at how diet affects the activity of our gut microbiota in health and in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). CK has a special interest in IBD and she is actively engaged in its research.

CK undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong, where she was excited to pioneer research into the benefits of a combined traditional Chinese food therapy and low FODMAP diet in the management of upper gut symptoms and IBS.

CK specialises in IBS, IBD, coeliac disease, chronic constipation, chronic fatigue syndrome, diverticular disease, eosinophilic oesophagitis, functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastroparesis, gut health, low FODMAP diet, malodourous gas management, pouchitis, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, cardiovascular health, type II diabetes, general health and wellbeing, heart health, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, pregnancy nutrition, vegetarian and plant-based nutrition.
